In the natural hair community, the number #1 issue we face is dry hair, especially dry ends. Our curly texture(s) prevent sebum from reaching the entire length of the hair shaft which results in dryness. Without intervention, dry brittle ends will lead to split ends, breakage and thinning. If your goal is to grow long hair or to maintain length retention, the Baggy Method may be an excellent addition to your hair care regimen.
How it works:
The baggy (or plastic cap) traps moisture by preventing evaporation. The body heat produced under the cap condenses water, so that it remains in liquid form for your hair to absorb as needed. What sets the Baggy Method apart from other moisture retention methods is that this can be done on clean or dry hair and does not require you to rinse out the product. You can use this method for the ends of your hair only or for your entire head.
What you will need:
- Plastic shower cap or any plastic bag (grocery, Ziploc, etc.)
- Your choice of water-based moisturizer, leave-in conditioner, or natural oil
- Hair tie (if you choose to baggy your ends only) or Head band (if you choose to baggy your entire head)
The Baggy Method:
- Apply your choice of product.
- Cover your entire head or the ends of your hair with the plastic shower cap and secure with a head band or hair tie.
- Allow it to sit for a few hours or overnight (the length of time is completely up to you).
** WARNING: It is NOT recommended that you use this method on a daily basis. It is not healthy for your hair to be constantly wet/damp for long periods of time. You must allow your hair to dry completely and breathe.**
Have you tried the baggy method? How did it work for you?
Thank you for stopping by!!!

I used this method even before transitioning. My mom taught me this one in grade school (hated the plastic cap)! Always works well for hydration and locking in the moisture.
