One of the many things I love about blogging is discovering new things about hair that I can share with you. Despite washing my hair with shampoo or co-washing, I struggle with removing product build up. When I read that one of the benefits of an Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) rinse is to remove product build up, I couldn’t wait to try it. So I gave it a try and I have noticed less product build up since I rinsed my hair with ACV; I will definitely be adding this to my wash day regimen on a more regular basis. Now… with that said there are many other benefits that ACV provides that are listed below.

How does ACV rinse benefit you:
– Removing product build up
– Restoring the pH balance of your hair
– Sealing cuticles
– Antibacterial and antifungal properties
– Adds shine
– Treating dandruff and itchy scalp
– Assists with detangling

The process is easy… Shampoo/Co-wash hair, rinse thoroughly and apply Apple Cider Vinegar rinse to hair. Before you go and pour the bottle of ACV directly on your scalp, realize that ACV is acidic (pH 2.9-3), it MUST be diluted first. Here is the tricky part because everyone’s hair and scalp are different. You may have to try this a few times before you find the correct dilution ratio for your hair. I recommend starting with a 3:1 ratio (3 cups of water to 1 cup of ACV).  Pour the diluted solution over all areas of your scalp. Allow the rinse to sit on your hair for a few minutes (I like to massage my scalp while it sits), you can cover your hair with a plastic cap if you choose. Then, rinse and style hair as desired. Be mindful that if you’re not applying this in the shower, it will run down your face and neck even with a plastic cap covering your hair.

** Don’t worry the scent of the ACV will go away once your hair dries**

Have you tried an ACV rinse? What did you like (or dislike) about it, I want to hear from you?

XOXO,
