I can’t believe how fast this year has flown… I promise the older I get the faster time seems to pass and I realize the importance of stopping to “smell the roses”. We are half way through November and the weather here in Arkansas is finally feeling like Fall. Speaking of Fall… this is also the season of protective styling.  I’m a BIG advocate of protective styling and I often opt for them in the Fall and Winter months, but also during my long consecutive work nights. I love that I can just get up and go and not have to manipulate my hair and the benefits are guaranteed when done properly.

Benefits of Protective Styles:
-Moisture retention
-Growth/Length retention
-Protects the ends of hair from environment and fabrics
-Minimizes manipulation
-Minimizes breakage
-Versatile and allows for creativity
-Saves time

Some naturals may feel that protective styling is a bit boring. And here are my thoughts about that… You have to do what’s best for you. What I mean by that is, if your goals are to grow bra strap length hair, then protective styling would be a great option to assist in achieving that goal. If length retention isn’t a priority or a goal for you, then, yes protective styles could be boring. At the end of the day, it is your hair and you have the right to style it as you please. Now, that’s not to say that wearing your hair in wash-n-gos and other “out” styles won’t grow your hair, but ultimately the health of your hair results from how well you take care of it.

I love looking at pins on Pinterest and surfing YouTube videos for new (well, new to me) protective style ideas. I can spend countless hours pinning and giving the thumbs up. Is anyone else guilty of this??? I’ve found a few styles that I’ve tried in the past and loved and some that I want to try in the near future that I’m sharing below, check them out!!!
